So sorry but the gas prices are over $3.00 a gallon more than this time last year. We hoped not to have to pass these costs along to you but we need to consider longevity in this business. We chose to add a gas surcharge, that can be removed once prices come back down over raising the costs permanently.

We have not had a price increase since the COVID-19 shutdown. We are seeing inflation worse than anything since 2007. Our supplies and gas are costing us a tremendous amount so we have increased our grooming prices to help offset those costs. We totally understand that you, our loyal customer, are also suffering in this depressed economy. We truly appreciate you and your pet.

There are many reasons a dog will scoot across the floor, dragging his anus (and possible a brown streak) down the center of your new carpeting. The most common, in order, are:
1) The anal glands are full and are creating discomfort. A trip to your vet or the groomer is advised to express the anal sacs and relieve the pressure. While the anal glands are normally expressed during a bowel movement, some dogs – especially small dogs – do not fully extend the anus, thus the elimination of the anal sac does not occur.
2) The dog has worms (tape worm or strongids are the most common) You can tell if worms is the cause of the anal discomfort by lifting the tail and observing. When a tape worm sheds, it looks like pieces of white rice. The pieces are sticky and can remain on the anal area causing an itchy sensation. Strongids look like spaghetti and can hang from the anal cavity after a bowel movement as they are long and may not have been fully expressed. They can range in color from pale, almost clear to a deep reddish brown.
3) The dog was just groomed and the groomer expressed the anal gland OR the groomer nicked the anus with a clipper. As the anus heals, it becomes itchy for a day or two and you should see this behavior stop.
4) The carpet does not smell like the family and the dog is spreading scent gland around. Although not a common occurrence, it has been known for dogs to scoot across new items like carpets, floors and even clothing left around. The anal sac contain the scent of your dog and if he/she is very territorial, this behavior can occur.

(chuckle) Actually, those mats have been forming for weeks, maybe even months, and you did not notice them as the kitty keeps the surface of the coat slicked with tongue grooming. The mats start at the skin with loose hair, dander and dirt combining to create a web. As the webbing adds more and more loose hair, it spreads until eventually it begins to form a hard mat.
To prevent matting on your kitty, use a slicker brush once or twice a week and comb the hair backwards, against the growth grain, to lift the hair from the skin and break up the webbing.

We offer 24/7 emergency “De-Skunking” service. The reason for that is that the skunk musk is an oil and needs to be removed from the dog or cat within 3 hours to effectively stop the smell. The oil begins to be absorbed into the shaft of the hairs and the skin and after 3 hours, no amount of bathing will get rid of the smell entirely. After that time, only the natural shedding process will remove the smell. Here are some home tips for you to prevent a skunk from ruining you and your pet’s life for the next six months.
- DO NOT LET THE PET INTO THE HOUSE! The oil will transfer from the pet onto your furniture, your carpets, your floors and your walls. It will be absorbed into the fabrics and the only way to get rid of it is to replace it.
- Soak the pet head to toe to tail in cool water.
- Work a bottle of peroxide into the hair. Take care to get the face, chest and front legs as this is where most skunk sprays concentrate.
- Now, use a mixture of 2/3 blue Dawn dish detergent with 1/3 water and suds the pet everywhere. In between toes, face, under ears … everywhere!
- Rinse the pet with cool water.
- Repeat #4 and #5
- Towel dry the pet and let the pet air dry. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER! Any heat applied to skunk musk that you may have missed will set it permanently into the hair shaft and skin.
- When the pet is dry, we recommend one more bath with a human shampoo that contains conditioner. This will sooth the skin of the pet and make them smell a little nicer.
- We recommend that you dispose of the clothing you were wearing during the de-skunking treatment. If you attempt to wash it, you can leave a residual skunk musk oil in your washer to be picked up by the next load of clothes.

2010 and 2011 have been HORRIBLE years for fleas and ticks. It is now February 2012 and we are still getting calls for flea and tick baths. Here’s some common household items you can use to get rid of the fleas and ticks in your home after we come out and professionally remove them from your pet.
- Listerine kills! It penetrates the shell of the flea leaving it dead in minutes. Use 1 part Listerine to 2 parts water, mix in a spray bottle. Use on furniture, carpets, linoleum floors. Spray then run your vacuum. When finished, remove the bag from your vacuum and take it outside. Repeat daily for one week. (Do not use on hardwood floors as the listerine can stain the wood.)
- Do you have fleas in the house? This test will tell you. Place a lamp on the floor close to where your pet spends most of its time. Under the lamp, place a shallow dish with water and a couple drops of blue Dawn dish detergent. Leave the lamp on overnight. Although fleas can walk across the surface of water, the Dawn breaks the water barrier and the flea will drown. They are attracted by the light and heat from the lamp, jump and fall into the dish. When you wake up in the morning, if there are fleas in the dish, you need to treat your house. We recommend www.cedaroil.com for non-chemical house treatment.
- In your yard, combine Listerine with blue Dawn dish detergent and water (1 part each). This will smell really bad but will not harm your grass or flowers. Spray along the base of the home taking care to around doors. Go out four feet. Any fleas jumping into this barrier will die as the Listerine penetrates the shell. The blue Dawn helps the mixture to stay on the surfaces of plants and grass so it’s not absorbed. Repeat daily until the fleas are gone from inside your home.
- Fleas can jump up to 13″. If you see fleas on your arms or upper body, fleas have begun infesting your clothing. At this point, it is time to get professional assistance and have your house de-flead by Orkin, Terminix or another bug control company.
